What is Virtual Sim Racing & the VSR Showdown?
A new breed of drivers will be given their chance to shine with the Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) teaming up with Motum Simulation to host their first ever Esports events. The VSR Showdown is the ultimate contest!
Drivers from the physical and virtual worlds will go head to head in a knock-out tournament competition. For Round 1 at Sydney Motorsport Park, the winner of the event was awarded a test day in a CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Car. That honour went to Dylan Shepherd in September 2018.
Unlike the usual sim racing, we're using a full motion rig with virtual reality. This unique, immersive experience blurs the lines between the real and the virtual, creating an even playing field for all our drivers. Our game of choice is iRacing, which is arguably the industry-standard in competitive sim racing simulations. iRacing is used as a training tool by professional racing drivers and teams to develop technique and improve driver performance, and provide the most intense simulated racing experience you will find.
CAMS are officiating proceedings and ensuring the driving standards and sportsmanship are held in the highest of regards. The VSR Showdown 2018 rounds will also be streamed online to the iRacing Esports Network on YouTube thanks to broadcast partners V8sonline, and depending on the round, may also be streamed to other media channels.
